Historic names such as Norton, Triumph and BSA evoke times of rebellion and independence. The phrase "Ton up Club" comes from the fact that the motorcycles could get over the magic 100 mph (the ton, hence if you rode at 100 mph you became a member of the "Ton up Club"). The cafe racer image was borne out of the how motorcyclists met and rode together, meeting at cafe's dotted along the A1 highway in England.
